Apache Junction Seekers

Al and Linda enjoy visiting new places and having new experiences. In 2006, we spent 4 months in Europe and originally created this blog to keep friends and family informed. After a long delay, I'm trying to catch up with what we've been doing since then and hope to carry on into the future.

Photo Album............The Alsace..........................

Strasbourg was a lovelier city than I had imagined from the guidebook descriptions. We visited on a Sunday and there were only other tourists around. This is a view from the top of the 'barriere' that apparently controls the water levels of the canals that encircle the medieval section of the city. The cathedral is in the distance.

Al and a row of typical Alsation buildings along a canal. These folks aren't afraid of color.

A detail of the main door of the cathedral in Strasbourg. Apparently the idea of all the carvings was to communicate biblical concepts to an illiterate population. You could spend a lot of time 'reading' this facade.

Another view of the cathedral.

There are always beggars around cathedrals but this little fellow was an entertainer and so we gave him a couple of euros even though we walked up just as he was folding up to leave.

Al in front of Le Musée Français du Chemin de Fer near Mulhouse.

A 'modern' locomotive inside the museum. We were very disappointed with the presentation of material in the museum although they had an enormous amount of rolling stock on display. A better museum is the Peugeot Museum, also in Mulhouse.

A vineyard overlooked by a ruined medieval fortress. Great white wines are made in this area but even here at the source they are more expensive than we expected, a reflection of the quality I guess.

There was an 'art trail' of installation art in the area around Barr. I'm not sure if this particular one had a point or not but it was the most photogenic.

Typical village with vineyards on the perimeter. I think this one was Andlau.

Driving into the same village. Note the flower boxes.

The house where we stayed while in the Alsace. We entered through the garage to go to our basement room, which was a godsend in that awful heat. We took breakfast in the garden next to the little building you can just see to between the two trees. Our private patio was behind the house. The garden was full of flowers and Madame couldn't leave in the summer because everything had to be watered every day.
