Apache Junction Seekers

Al and Linda enjoy visiting new places and having new experiences. In 2006, we spent 4 months in Europe and originally created this blog to keep friends and family informed. After a long delay, I'm trying to catch up with what we've been doing since then and hope to carry on into the future.

Photo Album.........France...... Brittany...................

Al at the Maison de l'Automobile at Loheac, one of the best auto museums we've ever seen. It was founded by the owner of the Hommel automobile manufacturing company and not only contains a large number of interesting cars, they are presented well. The Porsche models Al is standing in front of just happen to be exactly the ones that he and Linda owned when they met, a 1967 912 and a 1965 356, respectively, although the colors are not the same as we had. The museum also contains some interesting art work and a 'chapel' devoted to the performance automobile engine.

Ella with her sketch for a portrait of Linda. Ella is a true character as befits an artist and has a good eye for portraiture as well as for her wardrobe. However, I'm not sure about looking like an old French woman as drawn by Van Gogh. Hard to see ourselves as others see us....

Views from the garden at our B&B in La Hisse, just outside of Dinan, overlooking the Rance.

View from the river looking up at the B&B which is the house on the left on the skyline. Our room was on the ground floor at the left.

The church in the old quarter of Dinan viewed past an incredibly weathered wooden support for an overhang. Dinan is quite touristy but very attractive. The old city ramparts are largely still existent and make a nice walk.

View of the old port of Dinan on the river Rance taken from above along the ramparts. The old port is a great place to have a meal on an outdoor terrace along the river.

There is a footpath along the river below the B&B and the natural rock gardens are fascinating.

More riverside gardens.

Le Mont-St. Michel with Al in the foreground. The wind was whipping across the bay but it wasn't keeping the tourists from pouring onto the island.

The harbor front at Cancale on the other side of the bay from Le Mont-St. Michel. Cancale is known for its oysters and other fresh seafood. We found a little open air cafe where the oysters were shucked to order and gorged on oysters, tiny gray shrimp and crab.

The oyster market at Cancale. The stalls all offer the same product as nearly as we could tell, although maybe the difference is in the service. You can buy your oysters and then sit on the sea wall and enjoy them with a glass of wine brought over from the bar across the street. Tres French. Note the old oyster beds in the middle background in front of the marina.

Near Cap Frejus on the northern coast of Brittany. More wildflowers.

Al and a 'castle' near Cap Frejus.
