Apache Junction Seekers

Al and Linda enjoy visiting new places and having new experiences. In 2006, we spent 4 months in Europe and originally created this blog to keep friends and family informed. After a long delay, I'm trying to catch up with what we've been doing since then and hope to carry on into the future.

Photo Album....France..The WWII memorial village of Oradour-sur-Glane

All of the following photos were taken in the deserted village of Oradout-sur-Glane, scene of an almost total massacre of the inhabitants by the Nazis on one day during WWII. There was no one left to return to the village after the war and after General DeGaulle visited the site, he declared that it should remain unrestored as a witness to the atrocity.

Many of the buildings have plaques describing the pre-war function. Artifacts from the time remain in the now-roofless ruins, including the carefully parked cars for which fuel would not have been available.

If you are ever in the area of Limoges, France, a side trip to this site would be unforgettable.
