Apache Junction Seekers

Al and Linda enjoy visiting new places and having new experiences. In 2006, we spent 4 months in Europe and originally created this blog to keep friends and family informed. After a long delay, I'm trying to catch up with what we've been doing since then and hope to carry on into the future.

Photo Album............Germany.........................................

View of the Zugspitze from our B&B balcony in the little town of Grainau near the base of the mountain, just outside of Garmisch-Partenkirken. The Zugspitze is the highest peak in the Bavarian Alps and you can go right to the top using a combination of cable car lifts and a cog railway which takes you through a long tunnel.

The view at the top of the Zugspitze. For the journey up, we took the cable car that starts at the bottom and goes all the way to the top. We had great views until just at the top when we went into a cloud.

More view at the top.

From the top, you can come down on different cable car line that only goes partway down and then you take the cog railway down to the bottom. This shot is from the intermediate level between the the cable car and the railway. There were hordes of people by this time.

While we waited for the cog railway, the top of the Zugspitze cleared intermittently.

The city wall at Rothenburg on the Tauber. The travel guides love this city but we found it dead and uninteresting compared to other walled cities we have visited.

Al at the Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen, outside of Stuttgart. The museum at the moment is tiny and if you're thinking about going, hold off until they finish the new one sometime next year.

The main square in Heidelberg. We had lunch just before that dark cloud in the background decided to drop its load. Al was not happy with me for leaving the umbrella in the car. The square went from absolutely mobbed to almost empty in minutes.

Al with Brian and Sindhu at their home in Wiesloch, near Heidelberg. We had met them in Portugal and I'm sure they were surprised when we took them up on their invitation to visit. Sindhu was 8 1/2 months pregnant at this time and a couple of weeks later delivered a lovely baby girl.

Al with Dan and Ed, friends from our G-scale model railroad club in Phoenix, at the LGB factory in Nuremberg. LGB is a major producer of G-scale railroad 'stuff' and the company was celebrating its 125th birthday with a huge three-day party.

Here we are in a rare photo together in front of a commemorative railcar at the LGB factory.

Al in front of a working steam engine that was used to pull an excursion train for the LGB birthday party. The ride lasted about an hour and a half.

A delightful fountain outside the Toy Museum in Nuremberg. The museum has a fascinating collection of toys dating from a few thousand years ago to the present.
